I found CPR for Caregivers a concise, thoughtful and practical guide. I am a psychologist working in geriatric mental health care. During my work, caregivers often ask questions on how to help their family member. They have a great need to learn how to "Connect, Project, & Reflect through mind, body, and spirit". The author, Grant Watkins, managed to discuss caregivers' experiences without preaching from theoretical positions. There was a wonderful honesty and sensitivity in the book. The hopefulness in the "Success Stories" leaves the reader feeling a renewed strength. I think the book will provide a very sincere support to anyone providing care. CPR for Caregivers is a small but powerful book. I had a severely handicapped sister that was blind and suffered from mental disabilities. I was one of the primary caregivers and experienced many of the same feelings that the author described in his book.
Although my sister has since passed away, this book gave me a better understanding of my feelings during many stressful times in my life. Most importantly it helped me overcome some the guilt that I have been carrying around for many years. Pamela J. Schmidt
It is a must read for those that are caregivers. It is full of personal experiences that many readers will be able to relate to. I highly recommend this book to everyone. Buy it!

A quick but powerful read, especially as the need for caregiving continues to increase. It's just a matter of time before all of us will either be a caregiver or need a caregiver. James F. Foltz

I have just finished Grant's book. It is a very novel approach to what I have read on caregivers. His emphasis on healthy ways of caring for oneself is emphasized.I couldn't agree more that connecting with oneself - body, mind & soul - is paramount to any life altering endeavor one faces.
Awareness of how one projects onto another, as well as deeper self-reflection are also viewpoints that are worth pondering. Of course we know that too many caregivers would feel overwhelmed at the thought of working on themselves in the midst of caregiving...but the truth is that this is key to providing better care. Grant states this over & over; making the connection. I also very much enjoyed his stories to emphasize his points. The tale of his Dad on Halloween night was also quite touching. I found Grant to be "transparent" in his writing, genuine & truely focused on the message.

CPR for Caregivers arrived today and I just finished it about one minute ago. It's Wonderful, with a capital W! It is clear, personal, practical, do-able, encouraging. I especially liked Grant Watkins' own bike ride story, and reading about his dad and the trick or treaters at the end of the book. His examples and ideas are memorable. I can imagine a friendly presentation by the author around these ideas. Cheering for Grant Watkins and CPR for Caregivers! Judy Halley Rochester, NY

I have just read the book by Grant Watkins - CPR for Caregivers. It is an easy read but very good read. The life examples are varied and applicable to so many lives of caregivers. I have been a nurse and nurse practitioner and a caregiver for over 25 years. I now own my own assisted living business that cares for only memory care older adults and I want to have one of these books for every one of my staff members. What is most important to me is how the author is able to bring together the dimensions of caregiving in a simple way but for me...to cause me to pause and reflect to help me in mind, body and spirit...you just cannot do it any other way.
I am very involved in the Alzheimer's Association and I will be bringing this book to them to request them to add it to their library.
Thank you Grant Watkins for this book.
